Avraham Shapira

Avraham Shapira was a distinguished figure in the Religious Zionist community, holding various esteemed positions within the Jewish religious hierarchy. His roles included heading the Rabbinical court of Jerusalem and serving as a member and head of the Supreme Rabbinic Court. Additionally, he was a prominent educator, notably holding the position of rosh yeshiva at Mercaz haRav in Jerusalem, a responsibility he undertook following the passing of Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook in 1982.

Shapira's most notable appointment was as the 4th Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Israel, a position he held from 1983 to 1993.
