Alter Esselin was a Jewish-American poet, notable for his contributions to literature in the Yiddish language. Born on April 23, 1889, in Chernihiv, within the Chernigov Governorate of the Russian Empire, Esselin would go on to lead a prolific writing career. His work spanned multiple decades, during which he established himself as a significant figure in Yiddish poetry.
Throughout his fifty-year writing career, Esselin published several hundred poems in various esteemed publications. His work appeared in notable journals and magazines, including Di goldene keyt, Di veg, Kundus, and The Zukunft, also known as Di Tsukunft or The Future. Esselin passed away on November 22, 1974, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, leaving behind a substantial body of work that showcases his dedication to Yiddish literature.
