Alona Lisitsa
Rabbi
Alona Lisitsa is a rabbi who has made significant strides in the field of Judaism, particularly in Israel. Her notable achievement includes becoming the first female rabbi to join a religious council in the country. This milestone was reached when she joined the Mevasseret Zion religious council, marking a new era for women in religious leadership positions.
Lisitsa's appointment to the council was initially made in 2009, but her official integration was delayed due to the Religious Affairs Ministry's reluctance to approve her position. However, following an order from Israel's High Court of Justice, the ministry finally approved her appointment in 2012. Her pioneering role follows in the footsteps of trailblazers like Leah Shakdiel, who had previously joined the Yerucham religious council in 1988, albeit in a non-rabbinical capacity. Lisitsa's achievement has paved the way for greater female representation in Israel's religious institutions.
