Alfredo Sirkis

Brazilian politician and writer (1950–2020)

Alfredo Sirkis was a multifaceted Brazilian figure, active in the realms of literature, journalism, and politics. Born in 1950, he pursued a career that spanned various fields, including writing and environmental management. His literary endeavors were complemented by his work in journalism, showcasing his diverse range of interests and expertise.

Sirkis's foray into politics was marked by significant roles, including his position as chairman of the Joint Climate Change Congressional Commission and vice-chairman of the Commission of Foreign Affairs and National Defense of the House. He was also the presidential candidate for the Brazilian Green Party in the 1998 election. Later, he was elected to the Brazilian national parliament, serving from 2011 to 2014. After completing his term, Sirkis chose not to seek re-election in 2014, bringing an end to his parliamentary career. He passed away in 2020, leaving behind a legacy that reflected his commitment to literature, environmental issues, and public service.
