Yaëla Hertz

Israeli-Canadian teacher and violinist (1930–2014)

Yaëla Hertz was a distinguished Israeli-Canadian violinist and teacher, whose career spanned multiple decades. Born in 1930, she went on to become a prominent figure in the music field, holding the position of concertmaster of the McGill Chamber Orchestra for an impressive 41 years, from 1959 to 2000. As a talented violinist, she performed extensively with her brother Talmon and pianist Dale Bartlett as part of the Hertz Trio, entertaining audiences around the world.

Throughout her illustrious career, Hertz toured globally, recording the works of various renowned composers and sharing her expertise through master classes in chamber music and violin. She was also a skilled soloist, performing in recitals on radio and television. Additionally, Hertz was dedicated to mentoring and guiding young violinists, particularly through her involvement with KlezKanada. She passed away in 2014, leaving behind a legacy as a talented musician and educator who inspired countless individuals through her music and teaching.
