Reuven Bulka

Canadian writer and rabbi (1944–2021)

Reuven Pinchas Bulka was a prominent Canadian figure in the field of Judaism, serving as a rabbi, writer, broadcaster, and activist. Born in 1944, he dedicated his life to spiritual leadership and community service. Notably, he held the position of spiritual leader at Congregation Machzikei Hadas in Ottawa, a role he commenced in 1967 and continued to hold until 2015, when he transitioned to the title of Rabbi Emeritus.

Throughout his career, Bulka engaged in various endeavors that reflected his commitment to his faith and community. He served as co-president of the Canadian Jewish Congress from 2007 to 2009, demonstrating his involvement in Jewish organizational life. Additionally, his work with Kind Canada had a lasting impact, as it led to the establishment of "Kindness Week" in Canada, recognized annually during the third week of February. Bulka passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of spiritual guidance, community service, and advocacy.
