Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco

American psychiatrist (1925–1998)

Pietro Castelnuovo-Tedesco was a renowned American psychiatrist, born in Florence, Italy, to a Jewish family. His father, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, was a composer. The family relocated to California in 1939, marking the beginning of Castelnuovo-Tedesco's American journey. He pursued his undergraduate studies at the University of California, laying the foundation for his future academic endeavors.

Castelnuovo-Tedesco went on to earn his medical degree from Boston University, subsequently establishing himself as a prominent figure in the field of psychiatry. His distinguished career included serving as the Blakemore Professor of Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University. Prior to his academic pursuits, he served as a captain with the Air Force Medical Corps during the Second World War. Throughout his life, Castelnuovo-Tedesco made significant contributions to the field of psychology, leaving a lasting legacy until his passing in 1998.
