Moshe Feinstein

Belarusian-born American Orthodox rabbi (1895–1986)

Moshe Feinstein was a prominent Orthodox Jewish rabbi, born in 1895 in what is now Belarus, and later immigrating to the United States. He became a renowned scholar and posek, earning recognition as a leading authority on Jewish law in the 20th century. His expertise and rulings have had a lasting impact, frequently cited in modern rabbinic literature.

Feinstein held various esteemed positions within the Orthodox Jewish community. He served as the president of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis and as the chairman of the Council of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of the Agudath Israel of America. Additionally, he was the head of Mesivtha Tifereth Jerusalem, a prominent yeshiva in New York. Through these roles, Feinstein played a significant part in shaping the spiritual and educational landscape of American Orthodox Jewry until his passing in 1986.
