George Jonas

Canadian-Hungarian writer (1935–2016)

George Jonas was a renowned Canadian-Hungarian writer, born in 1935, who made significant contributions to the field of literature. As a versatile author, he explored various genres, including poetry and journalism, showcasing his mastery of language and storytelling. With a distinct perspective as a self-described classical liberal, Jonas penned numerous works that garnered attention and acclaim.

Throughout his career, Jonas authored 16 books, with one of his most notable works being the bestselling novel "Vengeance", published in 1984. This book told the compelling story of an Israeli operation seeking to bring justice to the perpetrators of the 1972 Munich massacre. The success of "Vengeance" led to its adaptation into film not once, but twice, first as "Sword of Gideon" in 1986 and later as "Munich" in 2005. Jonas' literary achievements earned him recognition, including being appointed a Member of the Order of Canada, and he continued to write until his passing in 2016.
